Mislain, In-between

40”x30”

Watercolor, gouache, water and acrylic on wood.

With this piece, I hoped to push the boundaries yet again. I wanted to use ink, acrylic, gouache and water colors to see how much depth I could create. I began using thick, heavy ink to create the tree. Following this, I left certain areas blank, or drew the tree in a bit lighter so I could start adding washes of the blues and pinks. I would then go back in and add more layers of the trees, then more layers of the colors, so on the so forth.

The spotting effect is from water. I would lay the wood panel flat and let water sit on the panel for 5 minutes or so then let it run off onto the floor. This removed layers and created the interesting spotting/dripping effect.
