I Didn't Follow Your Advice

"I Didn't Follow Your Advice" was followed by "Hello?!". I wanted to paint a very strong female character, but I didn't know how to start or who I wanted to embody- until I watched Halsey speak during the 2018 Women's March in NYC January 20th. Her speech was beautiful, lyrical, and touched me deeply. It changed my life and I truly shed tears. (I will attach link below to video)

From then on, after watching this back dozens of times, I just started to paint. It came out of me and flowed out with an inspirational kind of ease. This pieces' inspiration is close to "Hello?!", the social climate of the time was still hanging in the air. But it wasn't until Halsey spoke that I felt like I was embodying her through this piece.
